Mid Year Reviews

Mid Year Reviews

It's that time again.  We've completed a few mid year reviews just before the break to begin to streamline the process.  Below is the final agenda.  In short, we'd like you to reflect on your work towards both schoolwide and personal pedagogical growth goals.  You are not required to prepare anything formally, but you are expected to be ready to articulately and thoroughly reflect on your growth and development at UAI this year so far.  Additionally, please come prepared to articulate your long and short term SMART goals for the spring term.  To help you, please read and review the prompts below.

Schoolwide Goals

Classroom Management and Social Emotional Learning.  Construct strong, positive learning environments through strategic implementation of Social Emotional Learning Routines, specifically, SLANT and Accountable Talk Stems.
  • Teacher reflection:  To what extent are you able to consistently use SEL routines to provide students with constant and consistent opportunities to build SEL skills?  What are your strength and growth areas with respect to this?

Student Engagement and Teacher Collaboration.  Using daily coach pairings and/or Monday instructional PODs, teachers will work collaboratively to improve instructional quality and improve both student participation and intellectual engagement.
  • Teacher reflection:  Reflect on your work with your partner coach/coachee and/or your work with colleagues during Monday POD time.  What has impacted your pedagogical growth the most and how do you know your practice has improved?  What has been the least helpful, and what would you need to improve your experience in the Spring?

Family Engagement and Strong Family Ties.  Through daily, small stakes contact with students' homes (phone calls, emails, texts, etc.), teachers will build strong communication connections between the home and school, and parent engagement in student learning and school activities will improve.
  • Teacher reflection:  How often are you able to make contact with your advisee's and/or other students' homes?  How would you describe those communications?  With which parent(s) do you have the strongest relationship?  Why do you think that is?  With which student(s)' families do you want to have a stronger relationship and why?  How do you plan to build that relationship in the Spring?

Personal Pedagogical Goals

Film Yourself, Watch, and Reflect on Progress Towards Personal Pedagogical Goals.  Some time during the first day back and your scheduled Midyear Review (see personal calendar invite), film yourself teaching.  Then, watch the video while reflecting on your progress towards the goals you set in September.  These goals may have changed, and that's ok!  Be ready to tell the story about why they changed, and be prepared to illustrate your progress (e.g. lesson plans, student work, the video itself) towards those goals thus far.  As part of your midyear, we'd like to watch the video with you and have you share the piece(s) that were most revelatory for you.
  • Teacher reflection:  As you watch the video, think about these questions:  How aligned are my execution and planning?  Looking at the students, how many are participating vs. how many are actively, intellectually engaged in the work?  What am I most proud of?  Where do I want to focus my energies for Spring growth?
