Final Post of the School Year.
We DID it!!  We are in the final two days of the 2023-24 school year.   It has been an incredible year full of so many different twists and turns.  We didn't have to contend with socially distant or remote learning, but this year's hurdles of attendance woes and mental health struggles posed even greater challenges to teaching and learning.  In combination with these two huge conundrums, UAI also underwent an immense transition in staff with 17 new teachers, and the state put us on a naughty list because we had so many more kids opting out of testing last year (after Omicron and Delta).

We've certainly had our share of shizznizzles this year.

And...we thrived.

Each one of you have put forth incredible efforts and sacrifices this year.  Day after day, you brought a tireless commitment to our students' academic and social-emotional well-being.  Through each of the challenges we faced this year, our community came together - our newest staff with their fresh perspectives and creative ideas and our returning staff with their institutional memory and wealth of experience.  Through our unity, our core values came alive.  We pushed each other to deliver rigorous lessons that reflected our students and created learning environments where our students felt included and heard.  We worked together to continue to find ways to cultivate student power and find true joy in our work with them.

We still have a ways to go to fully realize the outcomes we collectively crafted in our CEP, but perhaps for the first time in a long time, it feels like we are all on the same page about where we need to go and how we need to get there.

For me - this alone - this alignment in vision and mission - is a HUGE achievement for UAI.  With the collective talents, experience, and commitment of our staff, we have both the fuel and the direction for real, impactful change.  It's electric!  It's exciting!   It is my favorite UAI win of the year.

As you close out this year, I encourage you to think back and reflect on your own favorite win.  Recognize the hard parts and mine for the lessons where things went awry.  Then look for the place where the sun shines brightest and treasure the win.

I thank you all for your unwavering dedication and commitment to our kids, families, and community.  I am honored to be your principal and to lead to such an amazing team.  I cannot wait to see what next year brings!!

I hope each of you find long stretches of relaxation and recharge this summer, and that slow down and make the time to savor each minute!

Staff technology must also be returned if you are not planning to return to UAI in the fall.  This includes all computers, document cameras, printers, plugs and peripherals etc. that you may have at home from remote school times.  If you are planning to return in the fall, you can hold on to these materials.

Please also message to students that they should also bring in any broken or non-functioning tech.  We'll use summer time to repair or dispose of the broken tech.
