UAI Staff News
Black History Month Continues! This is our final week of Black History Month which culminates in a fantastic celebration of Black Excellence and our most fabulous UAI community on Thursday 29FEB at 6PM.
Many thanks and shout outs to Ms. Joanna and Ms. Pauline's work with our Black Student Union to make this month of celebration particularly special. Thank you to them for working hard to create and coordinate a month of amazing activities and memories: From planning, chaperoning, and coordinating trips to the African American Burial Ground, The Spike Lee Exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum to helping our Black Student Union explore their entrepreneurial side with their candle making and sales (they sold out!!), our entire school has had amazing experiences available to them as a result of Ms. Joanna's & Ms. Pauline's hard work and commitment.
Thank you also to Patricia, Mary, Freida, and super secret mascot extraordinaire (aka Shan!) for working to support our seniors in their second assembly of the year. From Auditioning students to lead the school in the Black National Anthem to giving our students the opportunity to show off their poetry and newly acquired African Dance skills, the assembly punctuated the awesomeness of our celebratory month thus far!
Upcoming thanks to M. Z who is scheduled to hold a painting workshop during lunch with students on Tuesday (27FEB) of this week and also thank you in advance to all who are working to put on an amazing event for our Black Excellence Extravaganza!! We also have a dance workshop scheduled for the 28th!! Given the range and quality of experiences we've already had this month, I am truly looking forward to this week of amazing events!
Tthank you to Jen for always being on hand to support our team in whatever way possible so that their vision and efforts land smoothly and create rich, lasting memories of joy & pride in UAI!
I *think* I got to everyone! But PLEASE, if I missed anyone's part in this amazing month please let me know ASAP!
I do want to make sure I get it all right, and I do apologize if I missed anyone!!

Huge High Fives to Alexis and Amanda!! They spent part of their break traveling to Los Angeles to present at the CPM Teacher Conference. This conference offers math teachers ideas and strategies that can be taken back to classrooms and used right away, and our very own Alexis & Amanda shared their work on how to leverage games like NY Times' Connections to build vocabulary and strength concept retention.
CPM hosts this annual conference as an investment in America's most important educational resource—classroom teachers!
Many congrats to Alexis & Amanda for showcasing their amazing work with their peers from across the country!! Their skills and talent in our UAI classrooms is truly excellent, and sharing their talent & expertise is a hallmark of their passion & dedication to the profession. Way to rock out Amanda & Alexis! You make UAI proud!

- May 6th will be the 1st Progress Report for MP4, and June 3rd will be the last one for the year
Monday PD. We will be working with the UA for our 2nd of 4 SEL sessions with the UA. Please meet in the farm promptly at 3:30PM.
March will go fast...As we emerge on the other side of this February break, we have the opportunity of five (mostly) uninterrupted weeks of schooling. The only disruption coming up will be our Friday afternoon family conferences and then Good Friday (which we have off) on the last Friday of March. For those students who had a bumpy start to this marking period, this is the time to really lean into them and push them to come to school on time everyday for the next five weeks. That will create a habit that will propel them through the end of the year with strong attendance habits. These attendance habits along with any needed academic support from you will help them stay on track to thrive this MP, and a strong MP3 will set them up for success in MP4. Keep an eye on your watch list and make sure to also lookout for kids who come late or miss school. Let's try to catch them all in these next few weeks and see how many we can get above our goal o 75 in your classes!
