School Leadership Message.
This week, we have another great opportunity to build on the relationships we've already developed with our families. Thursday evening's Literacy Night is the first academically focused workshop that we will be offering families this year (and is one of the action steps we outlined in our CEP).
The evening is structured to first and foremost help families to understand their child's current data - we will be handing out STAR Assessment reports for both ELA and Math, and attendance snapshots for all students. From there, Mike & Marsha (thanks!) will facilitate a workshop focused on Literacy, where families will learn about their students' current reading levels, reading intervention classes & literacy programming at UAI, and best practices for fostering a love of reading at home. At the same time, we are inducting our 10th Grade Future Ready students into the pre-nursing pathway!
It is critical that we have families in attendance on Thursday evening. I am asking that all teachers make phone calls home to invite them in for this important event. In order to ensure ALL families have access, we will have childcare and translation services available and we are serving dinner - please be sure to communicate this in your calls home!
As a heads up, we've been communicating the importance of getting this outreach done since last week. You should expect to hear from myself, Rosie or Kelly by the end of the day on Wednesday if you have not yet completed and logged your outreach. Please, please make sure this gets done.

School Culture Update.
Shout out to the following teachers who I have seen consistently greeting students at their classroom doors as they arrive for class: Sarah M., Celeste, Patricia, Marsha, Noelle, Judy, Rina, Meg, Liza/Theo, Sarah R, Phillan, Mike, Fatima & Alison. I know that this might seem like a small thing, but I think we sometimes underestimate the impact that these small moves can have on our overall school culture. Being at your door allows you to connect with students, set the tone for the class period, and remind students of the expectation that they arrive to class on time. It also communicates to students that we are ready for them and that their presence matters. Thank you to those of you who have been intentional and consistent about this practice. It does make a difference!
Shout out to Tom C, Tom W and Kat who not only signed up to participate in the ICT Think Tank professional development but wasted no time putting what they learned into practice! They have already begun implementing parallel and station teaching in their classrooms. I think one of the most important parts of professional development is what happens after we leave the session. Taking what we learn and actually trying it out in our classrooms is how we continue to grow and strengthen our practice. I appreciate their willingness to try something new and be intentional about how they are using the ICT models to better meet the needs of their students. Thank you for putting your learning into action.
HALLOWEEN! If you are not new to UAI, you know we go big on Halloween. If you are new to UAI, get ready.
