Announcements

Final Post of the Year.  Today's post will be the final post of the 2014-2015 school year.  Summer staff, you will be receiving emails directly providing updates and guidance for summer school, and over the summer UAI HS community will get one or two updates on summer happenings, but regular blog posts will not return until late August 2015.  This has been a wonderful and remarkable year.  Thank you all for your commitment, professionalism, talent, and sense of community.  No single individual can make a community great.  Together, we worked well to truly elevate the quality of learning at UAI HS - for our students, ourselves, and our community at large.  Congrats team!

End of Year Checklist.  Tomorrow is the last exam testing day for us at UAIHS.  All rooms except UAI summer schools rooms (403, 405, 407, and 409) must be prepared for summer school use.  Here's your checklist
  • Finish up the DESSA for your advisees and your half the of the instructional group.
  • All electronics have been returned to Allan
  • Any other valuable resources (e.g. books, math manipulatives, etc.) have been securely stored in locked closets or on bookshelves that have been turned to face the walls.
  • All teacher desks have been emptied of personal items that you don't want to lose
  • All walls have been cleared of materials and you have removed any staples from the walls in preparation for summer painting.
  • Anything else that I haven't mentioned...if you don't want it lost, stolen, or damaged over the summer, then put it somewhere where access is limited.

Last Day Logistics.   Report Card Pick Up.  All students will report to their advisory rooms between 8:20 and 10AM on Friday.  Students are only to report to pick up their report cards.  Students are dismissed immediately after picking up their report cards.  At 9:45AM, please call the homes of your advisees to let them know that they will be able to pick up their report cards in the main office starting on Monday, July 29th.  If you have the parent's email addresses, you can also email the report cards directly.   Advisory Contact Information.  Please make sure to triple check Skedula for any contact information updates.  Summer School Students will also be collecting their summer school letters on Friday.  Their programs will not be ready until the 1st day of summer school.  So, if your advisee doesn't show up on Friday, please call home to let her know that she has to report for summer school on Thursday, July 1st at 8:30AM.  Deposits, Keys, etc.  Please bring your keys (regular and elevator) along with your remaining report cards and summer school letters to room 409 at 10:30.  All deposits will be returned.  If you are checking out any piece of technology over the summer, your deposit will remain with me.

Plato Training.  Ms. Doris will be holding a Plato training and summer school teachers will be registering their students (credit only students are mandated registration - regents prep students are optional for study resources).  All summer school staff must attend to train for Plato and Study Island, which will be our two primary resources for the summer (in addition to the stuff we already have in our classrooms).  For those teachers who are teaching summer school, Allan will check out your cart.  If you are teaching summer school and getting a tech cart, I'm going to hold onto your deposits (ditto on the keys/elevator passes) and you will hold onto the carts and keys/cards.

Save The Date For Next Year's PD Training.  Teachers are scheduled to report back on Tuesday, September 8th, but please do save the date for PD training on September 1 through 3 of the week prior to that.  Agendas and goals are still TBD, so please stay tuned to find out!

Ms. Pamela's Retirement Party.  Ms. Pamela's retirement party is on Monday at 3:30PM at Dallas BBQs.  To get there, you head straight down Adams (away from the Brooklyn Bridge), and turn left on Livingston.  After 8 years with UAI and many more years with the DOE, Ms. Pamela has decided to hang up her teaching hat and retire to the golden shores (or is it glades) of Florida!  Come celebrate her illustrious career as teacher, leader, and mentor!

Graduation at Kumbel Theater. Once again, our High School Graduation will be held at Kumbel theater, located at Long Island University.  If you have not already received a specific assignment from Ms. Doris, please report to the theater no later than 10:15AM so that you can assist with entry and seating.  As is our tradition, we will be having an informal post-graduation celebratory drink at Habana Outpost after graduation is over.
