Announcements

Last Week of Classes.  We are already here!  This year has flown by, and unbelievably we are looking at our last three days of classes, followed by our last benchmark of the year.  As a reminder, your final benchmark follows the pattern of all other benchmarks.  Please use the full 90 minutes and please use the same assessment structure we have been using all year (e.g. evens/odds on an old Regent exam for your subject).  In addition, As we wrap up the year please make sure you are attending to the following:

  • Failing/Borderline Failing Students.  Please make sure you are checking in with them daily to clarify what they need to do to ensure that they pass your course for the year.  Please also make sure that you give updates on your check-ins in Skedula and that you outreach to families so that they are aware of the risk of course failure.
  • Packing up for the year.  Please make sure that by Friday, advisees have cleaned out their lockers, returned all resources, and removed the locks from both hallway and gym lockers.  Make sure that by the end of the day on Wednesday, you have returned all technology to Allan. Once Allan gives your cart the thumbs up, I will return your check/cash deposits.
  • Preparing for Regent exams. By next Tuesday, all materials must be removed from the walls (please also remove ALL STAPLES from the walls). This will help in the painting process for the summer. By next Tuesday, please arrange all desks in rows for testing.
  • Preparing for Summer School.  By the end of the day next Friday, please secure all resources and materials.  Use the following rule of thumb...If it's not secured, it probably won't be there when we get back from summer.  All HS classroom are being used this summer.  There will be an elementary school in the basement classrooms, Girls Inc will be running programs in July on the 4th floor, and the UA School for Criminal Justice will be housed on the 5th floor.

EOY Conferences.  End of Year Conferences start this week.  As per my last email, please remember to come prepared to your meeting with:

Data:
  • Your Scholarship Report (see my email from last )
  • Your Grade Scholarship Report
  • Your last benchmark data
  • And any other data you wish to include (e.g. qualitative examples of progress from your POD work - observations, feedback, etc.)
For this meeting, you will need to be prepared to discuss the following:

Agenda
  • (15min) Reflect on your Data.  Analyze your course passing rates (what percentage passed and what was the grade distribution), your benchmark data, and any other data point(s) of your choosing to discuss  why you think it fell out that way.  Also, revisit the goals I laid out for the school year.  Have you met the goals?  Are you satisfied with your progress? If so, why? If not, why not?  In either case, what are you planning for next year to keep or change student performance?
  • (15min) Reflect on your goals.  Which were successfully achieved? Which were put aside (and why)? Which ones are you still ongoing and what are you planning to do for next year?  It's expected that your goals may have shifted from the last time we spoke.  With the amount of peer feedback through coaches and PODs, that's inevitable.  So, please bring your current goals to the table.
  • (10min) Planning for Next Year.  In the final minutes of your conference with me, we will use the time to build out goals for next year.

DRP Results are in!  The latest DRP results are in!  Looking at the data, you can readily see that the 9th graders had the greatest growth, and that as a school, our fall growth outpaced our spring growth. We're going to be using this data in more detail when we return in the fall, but for now, you'll be using this data to form student groups for next year.  Monday's PD time will be dedicated to grade teams meeting.  There are two primary goals for grade teams: (1) Finalize the PID list, and (2) create Groups for next year using DRP and other data that the grade team wishes. These groups will be the first draft of the final fall groups.  Depending on enrollment, promotion, & other data, groups will shift.
